No. Roof Shampoo® products will not harm any landscaping or surfaces around your home. Roof Shampoo® contractors do NOT need to cover your plants or grass, or recapture run-off because Roof Shampoo® is completely safe for use around landscaping and will not damage your grass, plants, shrubs or trees. Warning – If a roof cleaning contractor tells you that they need to cover the vegetation around your home, be warned that they are using a product that is toxic to plants – likely bleach! They may tell you it’s “Sodium Hypochlorite,” but that is just the chemical name for bleach. Roof Shampoo® does NOT contain bleach.

NEVER! High pressure power washing can be very damaging to the shingles. Plus, it’s simply not an effective way to remove algae stains from roofs. Roof Shampoo® roof cleaning equipment is specially calibrated at a very low pressure to be used with Roof Shampoo® soaps and ensures a safe and effective removal of roof stains. No scrubbing, brushing or high pressure.

When Roof Shampoo® technicians finish cleaning your roof, it will be as clean as a new roof. Since it’s impossible to tell how long it will take for a new roof to get stained, the same holds true for a roof cleaned using the Roof Shampoo® system. You can rest assured however, that when your Roof Shampoo® contractor finishes cleaning your roof it will be squeaky clean with no remnants of algae stains left behind. Remember, it took years for your roof to get stained in the first place. Likewise, it could take years for new stains to develop after a Roof Shampoo®, if they even recur at all.

These products can cause many problems. Many of them are toxic to the vegetation surrounding your home. Plus, they are largely ineffective as far as roof stain removal goes. Also, whenever homeowners climb up on their roof, they put themselves at risk of slipping and falling. Roof cleaning is serious business and it’s always best to rely on the professionals.

Be very, very careful here. Many homeowners and contractors alike have tried to use bleach or pool chlorine to remove the dark roof stains. The results can be disastrous. Bleach and pool chlorine are dangerous chemicals that can permanently damage plants, shrubs, trees, and grass. Bleach can also dry out your shingles and corrode roof fixtures such as flashing, underlayments, valleys, and boots. Plus, bleach emits lung damaging toxic fumes. Any results that the homeowner sees are often just temporary and the staining is back within a few short months.

Be aware that if your asphalt roof is less than 6-8 years old and you live in warmer southern climates or is less than 8-10 years old and you live in northern climates, it may still have much of its original oil. This means it likely won’t need to be treated with Roof Maxx® just yet. But, if your roof is close to those age ranges, it’s best to have a Roof Maxx® dealer at least check it for granule loss and other issues to see if Roof Maxx® can start extending the life of your roof (by 5 years!) right now.

Can Roof Maxx® help new roofs last longer? While Roof Maxx® is great for lengthening the life of a roof that’s been around for a few years or more, a newly installed roof isn’t going to benefit from Roof Maxx® treatments.

Asphalt shingles can absolutely be recycled, but only around 9% of asphalt shingles end up getting recycled into other things, such as the necessary ingredients for asphalt roads. This low percentage seems to be connected to the cost of the recycling process and a lack of asphalt-recycling facilities. It’s also much easier to simply discard used up shingles into dumps and landfills. When asphalt is dumped into a landfill, it will sit there for many, many years because it isn’t biodegradable.

So, can Roof Maxx® make an asphalt roof last forever? Sadly, nothing lasts forever. But so far, Roof Maxx® has been proven through testing and research done at The Ohio State University to add an average of 15 years of life to an asphalt roof.

Roof Maxx® is designed to add years to your asphalt roof; over the years we’ve proven that our product can add five years of life per application to an intact asphalt roof. During its development, Roof Maxx® was tested by The Ohio State University Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering in line with the standards of the American Society for Testing. Roof Maxx® was subjected to a number of safety and functional tests, including fire safety.

It’s interesting how they answered the question, “Does Roof Maxx® pose a fire risk?” Two roofs were tested. One was treated with Roof Maxx®, and the other was not. The edges of both roofs were ignited with gas torches and burned for 10 minutes.
